Scars are a witness to our past. Do not be ashamed of them. They leave a mark on our heart and sometimes on our body. Some scars can be hidden, and others cannot. Our scars tell a story, and our stories can help others. Scars are a reminder of a serious wound and an infection that could have destroyed us, yet now those scars serve as a reminder of our Lord and Savior Jesus that healed us!
Scars mark us as a survivor! Our scars are a reminder of a powerful story where broken and wounded means being put back together and healed to His glory. Scars are evidence that the Lord was with us when He reminded us that He is close to the broken hearted and those who are crushed in spirit, forsaken, abandoned, downtrodden, ridiculed, tossed aside, helpless, in need of healing, wounded, and in need of love.
The scars our Savior wears for you and for me upon His hands and upon His feet remind us of our victory. He came, He lived, He died, He rose again, and He will return in all His glory to fulfill His redeeming story.
Therefore, as Paul said, we carry this truth with us as a reminder ————(2 Corinthians 4:8-10 New Living Translation) that we are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
May we see the beauty in our scars. Those scars are a part of us and give us a story, a testimony to share. In that story, there is love that overcomes the memory of the wound. That love is our Savior Jesus! His love tells us, and shows us, that we are worth saving and healing. His scars tell a story of relentless and redeeming love. What do your scars tell?
To love Jesus is to love one another, close and personal, so that we see each other’s scars and we share our stories about the wounds that made those scars. With our stories together, hand in hand, scar to scar, broken and wounded to healed; we are set free for you to be you and for me to be me and for us to be us together now and through eternity. More of Him and less of us with scars to scars and heart to heart. Our Savior did not hide His scars! Do not hide your scars!
Isaiah 54:4-6, 16-17 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. For your Maker is your husband—the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. The Lord will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit—a wife who married young, only to be rejected,” says your God. “See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.”
